If you’re trying to help your baby kick the bottle habit (most pediatricians recommend parents start weaning around 12 months), you know it can be incredibly frustrating for both you and your little one. But it’s important to make the switch, both to help avoid the tooth decay that can occur from teeth being constantly bathed in milk, as well as to help limit toddlers to the 16-24 ounces of milk they need per day (drinking too much can crowd out other nutrient-dense foods.)
That’s why Lifeway Foods CEO Julie Smolyansky is sharing one of her newest parenting tips with her loyal kefir customers: “I’ve recently realized Probugs makes for a great transition product to help wean babies off of their bottles in the morning and night. My daughter Leah, who is 15 months old, wakes up in the morning crying for her bottle. Lately, I’ve been handing her a Probugs instead, and it instantly soothes her, and the crying stops! I would love to let other parents in on this tip because it’s a common predicament with more than one solution, plus it’s the perfect way to get the baby his or her probiotics.”
Her tip jives with suggestions offered by Parents Magazine, which include a gradual phasing-out of bottles, replacing them one at a time with cups of milk or snacks. Another tip of there is to “Let your child pick out a special new cup, or decorate one that you already own” or “Try using a funny straw -- it may make cups more appealing. “Probugs comes in a fun, brightly colored spill-proof pouch with a spout, mimicking a sippy cup. The goofy face of Penelope Probug stares back at your kids, prompting laughter and smiles. Has your little one had his or her Probugs today?
