She’s caused billions to wonder, “Maybe She's Born With It?” with her trademark Maybelline ad campaigns, strutted down countless catwalks, starred in George Michaels’ infamously sexy Freedom music video, and authored a book, Living Yoga: Creating A Life Practice. Now, supermodel Christy Turlington Burnsis embarking on a new project: Every Mother Counts, her global campaign to raise awareness and improve the health and lives of mothers and children everywhere. And Lifeway is beyond thrilled to be a part of it.

Later this month, Lifeway CEO Julie Smolyansky will journey to Bangladesh with Turlington Burns and popular blogger Heather Armstrong, aka “Dooce.”  There, the three women will visit maternal health clinics and brainstorm ways to help empower, protect and care for mothers and children worldwide.

For hundreds of thousands of women each year, pregnancy is a death sentence. Sadly, nearly all of these deaths can be prevented. Turlington Burns launched her project at the debut of her documentary film No Woman, No Cry, which tells the moving stories of at-risk pregnant women and their caregivers in four countries. NWNC chronicles a Maasai woman in labor, who must walk five miles to a clinic with no electricity; a pregnant woman in the slums of Bangladesh too ashamed to seek out care; a pregnant OB in Guatemala who helps women who have suffered from complications; and a midwife in central Florida who treats uninsured women who have been denied appointments elsewhere.

In celebration of mothers around the world, Lifeway Foods will donate a portion of each purchase of specially marked bottles of Low Fat Blueberry Kefir to Every Mother Counts beginning this summer until the end of the year. We are very proud to be one of the first food companies to join the Every Mother Counts effort.

“When I was pregnant with my girls, Leah and Misha, I had access to the best nutritional and prenatal care available,” explains our CEO. “But that isn’t the case for millions of moms around the world. We are proud to support Christy Turlington Burns and Every Mother Counts in an effort to raise awareness about the need for improved care.”

Adds Turlington Burns, “I’m so excited to be partnering with Lifeway Foods. As an advocate for healthy products and living, their help in bringing global awareness to maternal health efforts enables involvement not only for me but for all of their customers, too. Together we can really make a difference.”
